Let's make SCHOOL LIBRARIES LEGAL in MA! 2005-06 Legislation Efforts:
PRESS RELEASE view (WORD document) Our Bill H1196 seeks to include school libraries in Chapter 70 funding. Currently the DOE neither provides leadership nor oversight of school libraries because libraries were not included in the basic Education Reform Chapter 70 funding even though the Department of Education specifications include library media centers in school construction plans. MORE
Schedule and message from our co-Chairpeople . Please ask our Massachusetts Legislators to make school libraries legal! The Massachusetts State Legislature’s Joint Committee on Education is conducting a “Listening Tour” across the state this fall to ask citizens for suggestions to improve our Education Reform Law (known as Chapter 70). Our members have testified at several hearings that we’d like them to support bill H1196, which includes school libraries in Education Reform. Until this language is included in Chapter 70, we have no standards or requirements for school libraries in our state—jeopardizing our jobs and our programs. Please print this letter out and send it to:
