SHARE THE SUCCESS: MSLMA AT THE MASC/MASS CONFERENCE Doris Smith, MSLMA Executive Director Thanks to the efforts of MSLMA member, Elaine Mokrzycki, our organization had a presence at the recent joint Massachusetts Association of School Committee and Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Conference held at the Centrum in Worcester on October 31st. The MSLMA booth was nicely situated among other vendors which gave us a visible presence in a good location. At our booth we featured the winner of MSLMA's 2002 Administrator Advocate Award that went to Dr. Mary Czajkowski, Superintendent of the Agawam Schools. Featured also were cooperative units that had been co-taught by both the library media specialist and classroom teachers. In addition to the handouts that were available at the booth, over 60 packets were handed out to attendees of the joint conference. Along with our co-operative units, our new Model School Library Program Rubrics and the information about VRROOM elicited the much enthusiasm. When I was asked, why public librarians were not flocking to fill openings in school libraries, I was able to talk about our role as teachers. This was a great networking opportunity not only with the conference attendees, but also with others who were either vendors or showing their programs. Thank you again to Elaine. |
