I was pleased to be asked to speak at the Bedford Forum recently. This is a revival of a tradition in Bedford of having a place to discuss contemporary issues. Currently, the group meets on Sunday mornings at the Unitarian Church.
Since I had just retired after 35 years in the Bedford Public Schools, I used my own experiences to highlight the needs and conditions of school library media centers across our Commonwealth.
MSLMA members need to be ready to take advantage of different forums to get out our message. In the audience the morning I spoke were parents, grandparent, retirees, Friends of the Public Library members and clergy. Some people we would not ordinarily reach. All seemed receptive to my talk and were surprised at the inequities across the state.
Again, we must speak out in as many ways as possible to try and get better library media centers for our students.
