| Legislative Update Doris Smith As the news of the death of Legislative Co-Chair, Joan Gallagher echoed in our ears, the MSLMA Legislative Committee renewed it's efforts to get the word "library" into the Educational Budget funding. While this may seem like a small thing, it would be very important in the future. While this year's budget, would only include wording, down the road, we should be able to get monies for our school libraries. Chris Gregory, our lobbyist, and I have visited with supporters on Beacon Hill and I have followed up with emails. We are now preparing to give testimony on our bill. Many of our leaders have stepped forward to offer to testify and many others have indicated support by contacting their legislators. Written testimony will also be very important. We are having a planning meeting on April 5th looking towards the hearing date of April 15th. This year's MSLMA Annual Conference will also take up the banner urging our membership to become pro-active. In the words of Joan Gallagher..."if we all do a little, much can be accomplished". |
